Fit for a (Mc)Queen

Gathered outside St. Paul's cathedral were a group of curious onlookers. Celebrities were packing into the cathedral. One might wonder what possibly was going on inside. A group of men gathered on the front steps of St. Paul's and performed a piece on their bagpipes.

In early February this year, the fashion world lost a great man. The man most often known as l'enfant terrible, was remembered on this day. This day, the world mourned for Alexander McQueen.

The ceremony was said to have been very appropriate for the late McQueen. Icelandic singer Björk performed a hauntingly beautiful song and was dressed in McQueen, no less. So were the other celebs who turned up decked up in his creations to commemorate this special day.

"He would have loved it," said Kate Moss, who was very moved by the memorial.

May angels guide you home.

Bare thy ankles!

Judging from the obscene amount of ankles there has been on the runways, I guess it's safe to say that cropped pants are the look du jour for Spring 2011. Let us take a look:

(Band of Outsiders, Karen Walker, Vena Cava, Marc by Marc Jacobs & Alexander Wang

From structured pants to loose fitting ones, they had it all at New York Fashion Week. Paired with open toed sandals and towering heels, it only extends your gams and put those fine ankles on display. This is one trend you won't be needing a diet to pull off. And for that, we thank the fashion gods.

Interview With: Dottie Tan

Of Fashionation fame, online blogger Dottie Tan came by school one morning for a press conference. Questions flew and the air, very tensed as she answered each of them aplomb.

So I asked her, "Have you ever felt so sick of Fashion you felt like giving blogging up?"

Of course me being me, it was not as straightforward as that. I fumbled, boy did I fumble, and clearly annoyed my class. But I wanted so much to ask this question because I was going through a very rough period; that being the uncertainty of my future upon graduation. As a fashion student in my final year, I was so sure I've had enough with the frivolous world of Fashion.

Her reply to that was yes, sure she has felt that but she overcomes it by taking frequent and necessary breaks. People in the media naturally expect you to be in-the-know so it is good that you know your terms. If not, be sure to brush up and look it up the minute you get wind of it. It's not always easy.

I think it's safe to say I've a new found respect in local bloggers.

Marc by Marc Jacobs in Stockholm

What a glorious day it was for the sweet people in Sweden! Ok well for those in Stockholm, that is. No more driving all the way down to ungodly Copenhagen to get their Marc by Marc Jacobs fix. Oh the lucky folks. The store opened its doors to the fashion able with an opening fit for a Stockholm streetster. That's street hipster, for the uninitiated. Here are some photos for us mere mortals who weren't there for the festivities

And omg how cute is it that Marc Jacobs teamed up with Moleskine to produce a notebook for Barneys Co-Op?! SO CUTE

Like how the good people at Ikea say it, Hej då

RAD by Rad Hourani S/S 2011

In true Hourani fashion, you'd expect an all black affair. How very apt of me then to pick a collection that features my favourite colour. Yes, that line is heavily laced with sarcasm. If you remember 2 posts down, I mentioned how dreadful it is for me to wear black. But I can't help it! Black sticks to me like an awful conjoined twin. I don't like being associated with a dark, brooding art student who by the way if you didn't know, is stereotyped to have a closet full of black clothes. Ok enough of my rant. I shall present to you RAD by Rad Hourani S/S 2011 collection.

His 30 piece collection was a myriad of colours! Ha ha ha. Well it was a collection filled with black, white and grey garments. Very Helmut Lang and Rick Owens if you ask me. The draping of the jacket lapels and Owens aesthetic comes off very strongly in the collection. Very fair play of proportion with the oversized blouses and tight leather pants. Mmmm. The trick with pulling off a monochromatic palette is to play with volume and texture, which he has executed really well. The choice of eyewear... I'm on the fence with. I like the futuristic feel of it, very Margiela's Incognito but.. meh ok I like it.

If anything, this collection just fuels my desire to pick out an all-black ensemble for tomorrow. I rest my case.

Rad says goodbye!

current obsessions:

  1. peterpan collars
  2. sunday mornings
  3. thieves like us

for starters

(vintage cardigan, topshop tunic, daiso socks, mom's orthopaedic shoes)

As much as I hate drowning myself in depressing black, I don't seem to have much of a choice lately. Stuck in an awful rut...........

Not much of a fashion dictator. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy my fashion but my views here are my own and I'm not one to impose my views on others. This platform is solely based on the notion that I am not a 'fashionista'. Expect bad quality photos, outfit repeats and dreary writings. Hi my name is alyssa and I won't be the greatest person you'll ever meet

hi
